The village of Competa lies in a valley at the foot of the Sierra's Almijara and Tejeda, six hundred and thirty meters above sea level in Southern Andalusia. The location is seventy kilometers east of Malaga (airport) via the motorway and eighteen kilometers inland from the sea.

 
 
In the white Andalusia village of Competa, with it's Moorish influences, you can be transported back in time. The farmers still harvest the almonds, olives, grapes and raisins as their forefathers did before and the mules are still in evidence as a means of transport.

Within ten minutes walking you can escape to a beautiful and peaceful environment. Normally the only life that one encounters in the hills are the goat herds and wild animals and birds. This is why this area attracts so many walkers, artists, photographers, poets and writers. People find a spirituality here that inspires. You can re-awaken your soul. Competa is for anyone who enjoys a stimulating, atmospheric and exciting environment. The main plaza is where people meet to laugh or cry or share the important moments in their lives. Eating is affordable here. The village has many restaurants, bars and lively cafes. The local muscatel grape enriches the local Vino de Competa, renowned in Andalusia for it's potency and quality. There are panadarias selling a variety of fresh breads, pastries and cakes. The Hotel Balcon has a swimming pool, tennis court, a playground for children and a discotheque for the teenagers. There are local riding stables where horses and mules can be hired at a reasonable cost. This is challenging countryside for mountain bike riding, particularly in the local national reserve.
